Tunisia
ASP-Tunisia has demonstrated a high level of implementation capacity with civil society strongly involved. National inventory in 204 sites revealed 1,240 tons of obsolete pesticides and 800 tons of contaminated soil and equipment. Procurement of a collection and disposal contractor is well underway and disposal is expected to commence by the end of 2009. A diagnostic study on management and use of pesticides in Tunisia is available, including a proposal for a national pesticides management plan.
A workshop to review the communication strategy for Tunisia was held in June 2009 and awareness-raising activities are being implemented as planned. The national NGO network organized a workshop on international conventions and pesticide regulation, and has conducted community-based pesticide monitoring.
